In collaboration with The Black Unicorn Library and Archive Project, we offer two distinct residency opportunities.
The Flower Farm Residency invites queer Black artists to share in the beauty and healing magic of the Cutting Root Farm. This is an opportunity for artists to celebrate themselves and their artistic practice. To rest, enjoy spaciousness and spend time with plants. This is an investment in artists’ journeys and creative development. Since 2021, five artists have joined the residency to rest and we have three scheduled to visit this year. We are grateful and awed to be in community with these amazing artists: Almah LaVon Rice, Jasmine Hearn, Jasmine Burnett, Micheal David Battle and Joy KMT.
The Flower Frolic Residency invites artists who work with plants, flowers and soil to witness and be witnessed by this land, to play with the plants that grow here, to create artworks, to further their path and skills as an artist. Portions of our gardens will be dedicated to growing plants that these artists want to interact with and use in art. We have tools and supplies to share. And we invite these artists to share their skills and crafts with our beloved community in a workshop setting at the culmination of their week at the farm. We currently have three artists scheduled to visit this year as we implement this program.
Please be in touch if you want to join this collaboration, support the residency programs or join an upcoming residency.
